The Chicago Film Society returns with another edition of Celluloid Now, which will feature screenings and workshops celebrating contemporary analog film exhibition and artist filmmaking, projected entirely on film. The public is invited to watch screenings of 16mm films from around the world. The free festival, put on by the city of Chicago’s Cultural Affairs and Special Events Department, also partnered with Taste of Chicago Humboldt Park on Saturday, offering a wide variety of food options for festival-goers.

The music festival will be Saturday at the Humboldt Park Boathouse Lawn and feature such performers as Noshaluv, Roy Davis Jr. and the iconic Robert Owens (who will also deliver a keynote fireside chat from 8-9 p.m. Friday at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Preston Bradley Hall). The endangered status of the building that once housed the legendary Warehouse nightclub illuminated the urgent need to preserve Chicago's House history. The fight to prevent the Warehouse's demolition created an intergenerational movement demonstrating what community organizing can accomplish.
Tickets are also available in-person at the screening, based on availability. The first of the three-part Open House series presents a Social Spectacular throughout the Chicago Cultural Center. This June, the Open House series opens with an evening to experience free art activations, visual art residencies, performance art residencies, and a chance to interact with artists in residence at the Dance Studio and Learning Lab.

MSB Dance Elite Performance Ensemble creates the opportunity for youth to use dance as an escape, a release, and to provide structure and balance in their lives. A Latin Folk Fusion ensemble comprised of musicians well-versed in the Afro-Mestizo genres of folk music from Latin America that blend the traditional with the contemporary by creating original arrangements of "son" while retaining the foundation of the traditional style.
Throughout his career, he’s shared stages with the likes of Chosen Few DJs founder Wayne Williams and DJ Jazzy Jeff. To further the legacy of House, he is also a partner in a record label with Chosen Few DJ Terry Hunter, called Mirror Ball Recordings. During the festival, the Taste of Chicago—Humboldt Park will offer more than 20 Chicago food vendors. Some of them include Robinson No.1 Ribs, Mabe’s Sandwich Shop, Gaby’s Funnel Cakes, Delicias Tacos, Tandoor Char House and more.

Celebrate Chicago Dance Month by visiting the resident artists in our Dance Residency Open Studio Series featuring the works of artists such as Tango 21 and Christopher Knowlton. The Chicago Film Office partners with Cinema/Chicago to present Summer Screenings, the annual free film series that casts a spotlight on a different country’s national cinema in the Claudia Cassidy Theater. As the birthplace of house music, Chicago always celebrates and honors this influential art form. The Chicago House Music Festival and Conference will bring the music, history and culture of house music into focus on June 23-24, 2023.
